Porcelain Dental Crowns, or Tooth Crowns
A dental crown, also known as a tooth crown, is a rigid cap which restores a tooth to it's ideal shape, colour and function, whilst at the same time, protecting the underlying tooth. crowns

Unlike Porcelain Veneers that are more of a minimalistic cosmetic dental facing, Porcelain Crowns cover the tooth entirely and in addition to offering a functional improvement, dental crowns allow also more versatility in changing the contour, orientation and shade of a tooth.

When an adjacent tooth is missing, the teeth that need crowns may also be used as abutments to support a porcelain dental bridge.  A dental bridge is essentially a segment of dental crowns that are bridged or joined together to replace a missing tooth or for added strength and stabilization of teeth.

Porcelain dental crowns may be used in groups in cosmetic dentistry and smile makeover procedures for a cosmetic dental improvement or comprehensive smile solutions, as well as in isolated applications to protect damaged or broken down teeth and offer improved tooth function.

When choosing between the application of porcelain crowns and/or porcelain veneers your dentist will examine the health and integrity of your teeth and consider your current dental situation carefully.

Cost of high quality Porcelain Crowns Approx. $1,600 to $2,000

Treatment Procedure for Dental Crowns

A tooth crown procedure requires two appointments:

Visit 1    At the first appointment the tooth is prepared by circumferential reduction to make room for the dental crown. An impression (or, mould) is then taken of the prepared tooth for porcelain crown fabrication at a laboratory that may take 2-4 weeks depending on the type of dental crown.  A plastic temporary tooth crown is fitted for the interim period.

Visit 2    At the subsequent visit, the temporary dental crown is removed and the final porcelain crown is permanently cemented into place.
