Dental Crowns, Dental Veneers and Porcelain Veneers |
|
|
Porcelain veneers are thin laminates of porcelain that are bonded to the tooth surface. One of the most esthetic smile solutions, dental veneers are popular in treating a variety of smile problems.
Porcelain veneers are the ultimate restoration for spaces, chips, fractures, rotated or misaligned teeth, unshapely or discolored teeth; allowing alteration of tooth position, shape, size and color. The end result after successful application of dental veneers is a dramatic cosmetic makeover.
The difference between crowns and veneers As cosmetic dentists we are often asked about the difference between crowns and veneers and why one procedure may be chosen over the other. The procedure of applying a dental veneer is somewhat similar to crowns but requires a smaller amount of tooth preparation and is, therefore, a relatively conservative technique.

| Preparation of the face/s of the tooth, or teeth, with minimal reduction of 0.5 to 0.75 mm in order to make room for the porcelain laminate. An impression (or, mould) is then taken of the prepared tooth, and sent to the laboratory for fabrication. A plastic temporary veneer is fitted, where possible, for the interim period. Laboratory fabrication takes approximately 2 week. | Visit 2
| At the subsequent visit, the temporary veneer/s is removed and the final veneer/s is permanently bonded into place. |
In certain cases, an additional visit may be required for shade analysis or further aesthetic assessment.
